Car Care Class Notes

There was sooooo much useful information and help given at this class.  Here are a few highlights for those who missed it:

When you turn your key in the ignition, check after one click to make sure all the warning lights come on.  (eg. if the bulb on your "check oil" light is burnt out and can't warn you - you could destroy your engine!)

Keep your gas tank at least 1/4 tank full!

Engine gauge/light say hot?  Run heater (yes, even in the summer, or goodbye engine).  If care is hot when stopping & gets cool while accelerating - run the AC.  Both of these start fans in the engine & will help you make it home or to a mechanic.

Run your AC for 5 minutes every month (winter) so your compressor seal doesn't dry out & leak; this will extend the life of your AC.

Tires -don't get duped by the tire salesman-
Check "ware bar indicator" to know if you really need new tires.
Make sure you get a good one graded at least 300 (treadware), B (traction), A or B (temperature).  Don't buy C tires!!  And make sure all your tires are the same.
Check your tires for air regularly - even your spare!! (Do you know where in your car your spare and your jack are?)  Tires will say the max air pressure (PSI) they can handle.

Money Saving Tip:
Buy yearly passes to museums, zoos, and other cultural centers of interest if you plan to go regularly. Sometimes going twice will be the same price as a yearly membership for a family. You could break even going at least two times a year.
